As the old saying goes, the guitar is a social instrument: it brings people together. If someone at a social gathering pulls out his or her guitar, it’s not long before people will be gathered around singing.

Whether you’re interested in becoming a professional guitarist, working on writing your own music, or just learning a few chords to sing along to, we can help!

While some guitarists excel remarkably by teaching themselves, finding the right teacher is important for the majority of guitar students for many reasons. A good teacher will:

•	Help you prevent carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis by instructing you on proper alignment

•	Help you decode the difficult tabs and chords you find on the internet

•	Offer the motivation and structure many students need in order to continue to practice and make progress

We’ll spend the first lesson assessing where you are and what your goals are and design a program accordingly.

Throughout the course of your lessons, you will learn:

•	proper alignment
•	guitar tuning
•	reading tablature
•	chords
•	strumming patterns
•	finger picking
•	how to accompany yourself while you sing (optional)
•	songwriting (optional)

The guitar is not only a beautiful stand-alone instrument; it’s also an excellent instrument to sing along to. There’s a reason why so many singer-songwriters and rock musicians, from John Lennon to Eric Clapton to Joni Mitchell, write their music on the guitar.

If you’d like to learn how to sing while you play the guitar, we can combine your guitar lesson with a singing lesson so you can work toward putting the two together.
