"For me, OC Glee is about group dynamics. It is as much about creating a group of kids who have fun together, see each other outside of rehearsals, and enjoy cast parties together as it is about making a professional-sounding singing group. Every student who is committed to it long enough will get to perform a solo that emphasizes his or her unique voice and set of talents and vocal interests.
OC Glee sings a diverse repertoire of music, from classic rock to modern pop, alternative rock, country, folk, and Broadway music. In part, I like to expose the kids to new music they may not have heard before, and in part, I like to take requests and allow them to sing music they’re already familiar with and excited about.
One of my favorite parts of OC Glee is getting to watch the older kids mentor the younger ones. At first, I was not sure that the diversity in ages would be the right thing for the group, but I’ve found that not only does it minimize competitiveness and backbiting, but it also gives the younger kids something to aspire to. The older kids and teenagers become teachers themselves, helping the younger kids learn their parts." |
