• For ages 3 to adult
Whether you’re interested in taking a strict classical approach or in learning how to accompany yourself on your favorite pop song, these lessons are for you.
We will spend the first lesson assessing where you are and which direction you want to go, and we will design a program to best suit your needs.
The classical approach we use typically uses the Alfred series to teach you how to read music, coupled with the Suzuki series to strengthen your technique. This approach will emphasize sight-reading, technique, and classical repertoire-building.
If you are purely interested in learning specific pop songs, we normally spend the time teaching you to read chord symbols and a unique notation system that will have you playing your favorite pieces on the piano quickly.
Most students choose an approach somewhere between these two techniques, combining the long-term goals of sight reading and technique-building with the shorter-term fun of working on recognizable songs.
If you also want to sing, we can design a program that will teach you to accompany yourself on the piano, using chord symbols mixed with improvisation techniques that will help you quickly learn to play and sing at the same time.
For children between the ages of 3 and 5, we use Alfred’s Music for Little Mozarts series, a comprehensive program that includes piano playing, music reading, rhythm exercises, duets between teacher and student, and creative workbooks.
If you’re an adult, it is never too late to learn. Some of the most dedicated, fastest-learning piano students have been adult beginners.
Lessons at the Costa Mesa studio are taught on a beautiful grand piano. We also offer in-home piano lessons with an Associate Teacher.
